About our work in E-commerce & Retail
Retail is the sector where engineering quality shows up fastest in the numbers. Page speed, search relevance, checkout friction and inventory accuracy each map to conversion rate, and conversion rate maps to revenue within the same week. That makes it satisfying to work in and unusually easy to justify investment — provided the measurement is set up properly, which is often the first thing we fix.
The storefront is the visible part, but most of the difficulty sits behind it. Catalogue data arriving from suppliers in inconsistent formats. Inventory that must stay accurate across a warehouse, three marketplaces and twelve physical stores. Pricing rules that vary by channel, customer segment and promotion, with overlapping validity windows. Order orchestration across split shipments, partial fulfilment, returns and exchanges. Getting these right is what allows the storefront to be simple.
We work across the stack: Shopify and Shopify Plus, headless architectures on Commercetools or Medusa, and custom platforms where B2B contract pricing or marketplace mechanics demand it. Integration work usually dominates — ERP for finance and inventory, OMS for order routing, PIM for catalogue enrichment, WMS and 3PL for fulfilment, and the marketplace connectors for Amazon, eBay and regional platforms.
Peak season deserves separate planning. Black Friday traffic is not simply higher — it is differently shaped, with sharp spikes, higher cart abandonment retry rates and heavier search load. We load test against realistic peak profiles well in advance, establish caching and queueing that degrade gracefully, and rehearse the failure scenarios. The goal is that peak week is uneventful, which is the only acceptable outcome when a single hour of downtime is measurable in the annual figures.
What we hear
The problems that come up repeatedly
Not a generic list of industry trends — these are the specific things clients in this sector bring us.
Inventory accuracy across channels
Warehouse, marketplaces and stores must agree in near-real time, or you oversell and absorb the cancellation cost and the reputational hit.
Peak traffic has a different shape
Black Friday is not just more traffic — it is spikier, with heavier search and retry load. Average-case capacity planning fails.
Catalogue data arrives messy
Supplier feeds in inconsistent formats with missing attributes make search, filtering and merchandising quietly worse.
Attribution is genuinely hard
Cookie deprecation and multi-device journeys break naive attribution, and marketing spend gets allocated on unreliable data.
What we build
Capabilities for e-commerce & retail
High-performance storefronts
Server-rendered product and collection pages with Core Web Vitals in the green and Product/Offer structured data for rich results.
Commerce systems integration
Bidirectional ERP, OMS, PIM, WMS and 3PL sync with idempotent, replayable jobs so inventory and pricing never disagree.
Search and merchandising
Relevance tuning, synonym and typo handling, faceting that reflects how customers actually shop, and rules-based merchandising.
B2B commerce
Company accounts, negotiated price lists, quote-to-order, credit terms, purchase order payment and approval hierarchies.
Peak readiness
Load testing against realistic peak profiles, graceful degradation, queueing and a rehearsed incident plan before the season starts.
