About Android App Development
Android's strength and its difficulty are the same thing: reach. Your app will run on a three-year-old mid-range device with 4GB of RAM, an aggressive vendor battery optimiser and a 720p screen, as well as on a current flagship. Teams that only test on the flagship ship apps that are janky, battery-hungry or outright broken for a large share of their actual users — and they usually find out from one-star reviews.
We build native Android in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, following Material 3 and modern Android architecture: unidirectional data flow, coroutines and Flow for asynchrony, Room for local persistence, Hilt for dependency injection, and WorkManager for background work that survives Doze and vendor-specific process killing. We handle the platform realities that matter — runtime permission flows that respect the user, scoped storage, foreground service types, notification permission on Android 13+, predictive back, and edge-to-edge layouts.
Testing happens on real hardware. We run a device matrix that reflects your actual analytics — a spread of manufacturers, API levels, screen densities and RAM tiers — plus Firebase Test Lab for wider coverage. Performance is measured with baseline profiles, startup tracing and jank metrics rather than assessed by feel. Play Console releases go out through staged rollouts with Android vitals monitored, so a regression in ANR rate or crash rate halts the rollout automatically instead of reaching everyone.
We also handle the store side properly: Play Console policy compliance, data safety declarations, target API level deadlines, app bundle optimisation and Play Integrity where fraud is a genuine concern.
Why it matters
What you get
Tested across the real device spread
A device matrix built from your own analytics — manufacturers, API levels, densities and RAM tiers — plus Firebase Test Lab for breadth.
Modern Kotlin architecture
Jetpack Compose, coroutines and Flow, Room, Hilt and WorkManager — a stack the wider Android market can maintain after we hand over.
Battery and background reliability
Work scheduling designed around Doze and vendor battery optimisers, so background sync still runs on the devices that fight it hardest.
Safe releases
Staged Play rollouts gated on Android vitals, so a regression in ANR or crash rate stops the release rather than reaching your whole base.
Policy compliance handled
Data safety declarations, target API deadlines, permission justification and Play Integrity managed as part of delivery.
How we deliver
Our process for this work
Adapted to this service specifically — not a generic five-box diagram.
- 01
Product & device strategy
1–2 weeksFeature scope plus a minimum supported API level and device matrix derived from your user analytics, not from a default.
- 02
Material design & interaction
2–4 weeksMaterial 3 interface design, dynamic colour handling, motion specification, and accessibility planning for TalkBack and scaled text.
- 03
Build
8–18 weeksSprint increments with internal-track builds, unit and Compose UI tests in CI, and continuous testing on the physical device matrix.
- 04
Beta & release
2–3 weeksClosed and open testing tracks, baseline profile generation, store listing and data safety form, then a staged production rollout.
- 05
Operate & iterate
OngoingAndroid vitals monitoring, ANR and crash triage, annual target API compliance, and continuing feature delivery.
